Hi, I'm Mike Nicholson. I teach
electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and bass guitar. I teach primarily
at Vista Point Studio
but I also teach at least two days per week at Creative
Music Studios . I teach many-but not all-styles of guitar. I also give instruction in songwriting/compostion and music theory. If you're looking to learn how to play
or a related style, I can help you. Classical, shredder metal, and jazz, on the other hand, are not my thing. Regardless of what you're looking for, here are few things to consider when selecting a teacher. I have been playing guitar since 1976 and teaching students since 1982. My performing career has taken me all over the South and up and down the East Coast as well as to Europe. I have always been active both as a recording and live-performance musician and remain so to this day (I currently rock out with Stratocruiser, the Kinksmen, Grant Hart (Hüsker Dü) and The Venables). Music is not just something I do. It's integral to who I am. I live and breathe the guitar. To me, it's a magical instrument that has enriched my life and brought me great rewards and pleasure. I love to play it and I love to teach it. Sharing my knowledge of the guitar-its mysteries, sounds, and emotions-with my students is a truly fulfilling and enjoyable experience. I have a wonderful cadre of students and pride myself on student retention and progression. I stress fundamentals, rhythm, ear training, chord theory, scale work, improvisation, and creativity.
